Hybrid SaaS - Frequently Asked Questions
What is SaaS?
SaaS stands for 'Software as a Service". It is a software delivery model in which software and associated data are centrally hosted on the cloud. Users typically 'rent' or borrow online software instead of actually purchasing and installing it on their own computers. In this model, SaaS providers install and operate application software in the cloud and SaaS users access the software from cloud clients. The SaaS users do not manage the cloud infrastructure and platform on which the application is running. This eliminates the need to install and run the application on the cloud user's own computers simplifying maintenance and support.
The pricing model for SaaS applications is typically a monthly or yearly flat fee per user, so price is scalable and adjustable if users are added or removed at any point
What is Hybrid SaaS?
A Hybrid SaaS model refers to the combination of the SaaS Service Model, with the Hybrid Cloud Deployment model. This model has arisen in response to the drawbacks of the pure SaaS model to provide the advantages of the SaaS model, while mitigating the potential drawbacks of on-premise solution.
A Hybrid Cloud is Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) or blended Software as a Service (SaaS) that is built and managed by a service organization as application silo for generic IT services. These are normally used as blend between an organization's critical applications data and the general or utility applications. For example, you might use Microsoft Office 365 as a cloud application, but all files are stored and managed within the organizations data centers.
Another view is that Software as a Service (SaaS) applications such as CRMs, e-mail and IM could be outsourced and incorporated into the company application portal. These services can be run in a separate instances or in a multi-tenant environment based on the acceptable risk factors
